Robert Sorby 167 Bevel Edge Chisel – Octagonal Satinwood Handle

Description Bevel edge chisels are the most versatile and universally used of all bench chisels and should form an integral part of any woodworkers toolkit. They can be used either free-hand making a gentle parting cut or with light mallet strokes. Side bevels reduce the risk of binding in the cut as well as allowing access to undercuts, like dovetails. Not recommended for heavy duty applications. This Robert Sorby 167 Bevel Edge Chisel has a traditional bolster and ferrule design and an octagonal satinwood handle.  It is considered to be the ultimate handle design for a premium chisel and has double hoops in solid brass to give the handle extra strength. Each chisel has a 25 degree primary bevel and a 30 degree secondary bevel to easily allow for the cutting of harder woods. For soft woods such as pine, woodworkers might want to re-profile the 20 degrees for the primary and 25 degrees for the secondary bevels. Very hard woods such as oak might require a steeper profile (30 degrees for primary bevel and 35 for a secondary bevel). Available in various sizes: 1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″, 3/4″ and 1″ and in a set of 5 both in a card box or a wooden box option.  Set of 5 contains one each of the following: 1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″, 3/4″ and 1″.
